Jajarm Limestone Mine
Jajarm located on the southwestern side of the Alumina Complex, limestone mine is part of Zirkamar Mountains, with a steep slope and elevation of 1,200 meters above sea level on average in a semi-mountainous climate.
Jajarm limestone mine is part of the Zirkamar mountain range located to the northwestern part of Alumina Complex with a relatively steep slope of layers in a semi-mountainous area with the average elevation of 1200 m above sea level.
In this area, the formation of Lar, is located on a soft and erodible layer belonging to the Mid Jurassic (formations of Delichai and Shemshak) is located. The interface between this formation with the formation of Delichai is continuous in nature and there is a marl facies in their borders.
The rock units of Lar formation are divided into two categories on the basis of their physical appearance. The separation line of these two units is a crushed faults zone.
Given the results of the analysis made on the samples taken from tranches and bores, the northern side of the mine has been recognized as capable to feed the plant, and, given the performance of the existing faults (along the northwest – southwest direction) this part has been divided into two western and eastern mine faces.
Production of per ton alumina using the Bayer method requires 348,000 ton granulated limestone. Given the explorations made and considering the average elevation of the area above the sea level (about 1200 m) and the lowest horizon of 1164 m, the deposit of this mine has been estimated to be about 24.5 million ton – the specific gravity of limestone assumed to be 2.7).
At present, about 2,000 ton limestone is extracted from this mine, which after crushing and granulation 60 percent of the product, with the grain size of 70-40 mm (27%) and 30-70 mm (33%) is carried to the plant and the remaining approximately 40 percent with the grain size of 0-30 mm is stored in depots as waste.
